Uploading
a File
The
"Upload File" section
of D-tran.com allows you to
upload and send files to a
specified list of recipients.
Click on "Browse"
and browse your machine to
locate the file to be uploaded.
The file path and filename
will appear in the Select
File window. Click on "Upload
File" on the Send Files
page. Upload times will vary,
depending on file size, modem,
browser and/or ISP. Only after
the file upload is complete,
the filename will be listed
under "My Files."
You may switch browser windows
but do not close the upload
window or the D-tran.com window
during the upload is in progress.
Sending
Files
After
uploading the file, click
on the "Select"
checkbox next to the files
you wish to send. Press "Send
Selected Files." Check
the boxes next to your intended
recipients (Note: Send your
files to up to 10 recipients
at one time.) to send the
file notifications. Recipients
will not receive the file
as an attachment, but will
receive an email message from
D-tran.com containing URLs
that will link them to the
location of your files. The
recipient can then download
each file to their machine
via their browser. File recipients
are not required to be registered
D-tran.com users.
Downloading
a File
Recipients
will download the files you
have forwarded to them by
clicking on the URL contained
in the D-tran.com email notification.
Depending on their browser,
they will either click on
the file as directed when
they reach the site or they
will right-click, "Save As"
and follow the steps provided
by their browser to save the
file to their machine or disk-drive.
Please note that if you delete
the file from your My Files
section, users that you have
D-tran.com will not be able
to download the file.
Deleting
Files
The
Send Files section of D-tran.com
allows you to delete one or
multiple files from your temporary
storage. Click the "Select"
box next to one or multiple
filenames. Click the "Delete
Files" button and the
files you selected will be
removed from your directory.
Timed
Out Uploads
Some
ISP's and browser utilities
are set to log-off users after
a certain period of inactivity.
Users can control this by
making sure their browser
is not set to log-off, and
by contacting their ISP and
requesting removal of time
restrictions when applicable.
Missing
Uploads
Periodically,
users will upload a file,
only to find that the file
doesn't appear in their My
Files directory. More often
than not, the uploaded file
exceeded the user's storage
limit, and was therefore deleted
from the system.
Upload
Speed/Progress
You
can improve the speed of your
file upload and download by
researching faster connections
using services such as cable
modem providers or satellite
connections, T-1 or ISDN lines,
and faster modems. Each type
of service has a cost involved
that must be weighed against
your needs. For reference,
a 1MB file takes a minimum
of 6 minutes on a 28.8 modem,
3 minutes on a 56K modem,
and 1 minute on a 128KB ISDN
connection. Multiply this
by your file size to get an
estimate of your upload time.
Upload
Confirmation
After
uploading a file, you will
be able to see all filenames
that have been uploaded in
step 2 of the send files page.
Multiple
Uploads
At
this time, D-tran.com only
accepts the upload of one
file at a time. |
